Opponents of plans for the first crematorium in the Highlands have failed in an objection to the local government Controller of Audit, the Scotsman reports (p4).

The approach was made by a church group who objected to public money being spent on the project. The Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland had claimed that the project was commercially unviable and the projected usage figures were unrealistic.

However, James Cattel, the convenor of Inverness DC's environmental health committee said: ' I am sure this demand will be proved when the facility opens in the summer of next year', the paper reports.
