Kidderminster is set to become home to the first integrated waste management system funded by a private finance initiative despite public concerns that the project could involve building a£250m incinerator near residential housing, reports The Guardian (Society, p4).

Worcestershire CC says the£500m deal contracting Focsa, a Spanish company, to handle waste disposal for the next 25 years, aims to halve the amount of waste dumped in landfill sites in the county and neighbouring Herefordshire.
