Greater public awareness of fire dangers has been urged by countryside groups and emergency services following fires in Cornwall and the Isle of Wight, reports The Guardian (p6).

Around 600 acres of a designated heathland in Cornwall was destroyed by a fire which broke out on Tuesday, and firefighters were yesterday battling a fire in 200 acres of forest on the Isle of Wight.
