A public campaign to put housing back on the North's political agenda was launched today by a 'rainbow alliance' of eight regional campaigning organisations.

The campaign launch also markes a unique 12 months' sponsorship by UNISON - the public service union - of the North East edition of 'The Big Issue', the magazine for the homeless.

The regional housing campaign ('Housing - Back on the Agenda') was launched by UNISON, 'The Big Issue' magazine, CHAR (the campaign for the single homeless), CoSTART (Sunderland Tenants' and Residents' Federation), the charity Disability North, Newcastle Tenants' Federation, Tyneside Housing Aid Centre (Shelter's representative in the North) and Tyne & Wear Racial Equality Council.

The campaign will run for a year - before, during and after the general election.
