Raynesway Construction Southern has landed a£10 million road maintenance deal with Bedfordshire CC.

The contract sees all road maintenance staff and assets transfer to RCS, a division of Balfour Beatty.

The addition of 2,000km of Bedfordshire road gives RCS maintenance responsibility for more than 14,000km of road in the south, following contracts with Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Surrey.

RCS managing director John Jackson said: 'This adds significantly to the opportunities for the staff transferring from Bedfordshire for further career development and now puts us in the position of being one of the UK's leading road maintenance contractors.'

Bedfordshire member Richard Payne said he was impressed that RCS's work had been commended in a construction task force report.
