The Conservatives have selected Redcar and Cleveland BC's Tory group leader as their candidate to fight the Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland parliamentary seat in the next general election.

The Evening Gazette reports that Barbara Harpham, who beat the leader of Barnet LBC's Tories, Liz Mammatt, to the nomination, will have to overturn the majority currently held by Labour's Ashok Kumar to win the seat.
