Planning guidance on the historic environment will be reviewed to ensure it takes more account of regeneration, the government has promised.

ODPM minister Yvette Cooper said PPG15 was 10 years old, and only mentioned regeneration once, reflecting the political climate of the time.

She told the ODPM select committee, which is looking at the role of historic buildings in regeneration, that this would change, though she could not give a timetable.

Ms Cooper added: 'In the meantime you could also look at what more we could do to get a better interpretation [of] PPG15.'
