The revised portal offers West Midland businesses the opportunity to talk and trade online, share best practice and link into local business support agencies, environmental agencies and training centres.
The portal has accumulated more than 600 members since its launch six months ago and registration is free.
The website has been developed by BT in partnership with Advantage West Midlands - the regional development agency - and Coventry University Enterprises Limited to stimulate economic development in the region
Frank Mills, general manager of BT regional government, explained: 'The portal offers opportunities for users to conduct business with others through the site. There are also opportunities for real cost savings through group purchasing arrangements'.
An improved West Midlands regional portal will enable the expanding small business community to exploit information technology and enhance its competitiveness. The second phase of the portal, due to be completed in December, will allow further development of virtual industry communities and provide members with access to chat forums, trade and tender rooms and job boards as well as the latest sector-specific news and events.
BT is currently in discussions with Advantage West Midlands about rolling out the portal concept across the region.
