A survey of retail trading locations has highlighted the continuing success of the main regional out of town centres, reports The Birmingham Post (p26).

The index of retail trading locations published by DTZ Debenham Thorpe says the top five centres are the MetroCentre Gateshead; Meadowhall Sheffield; the Merry Hill Centre Birmingham; the Lakeside Centre Thurrock and Eastgate Street Chester.

The regional centres have overtaken London's Oxford Street and Brent Cross.

London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Birmingham are the top five performing towns in terms of turnover, a position that corresponds with their size, the paper reports.

Analysis is based on 300 locations throughout the country, each retailer is asked to rank the 10 shopping locations and town which they consider to be the most/least successful.
