Avon, Cleveland, Humberside, North Yorkshire and the Isle of Wight will be allowed to spend an extra £23m to meet reorganisation costs, local government minister David Curry announced last night in a written answer, The Guardian reports (p11).

A further £27m will be made available in stages later this year, Mr Curry said.

Avon and its six districts will be allocated £6.79m, Cleveland and its four districts £8.54m, and Humberside and its 10 districts £5.35m.

North Yorkshire and its three districts affected by the change will be granted £870,000, with the Isle of Wight getting £1.45m.
