Local government reorganisation should not follow inevitably if areas vote

for regional assemblies, a Conservative councillor told BBC Radio Four's

Today programme this morning.

Sue Bolam, a member of Alnwick DC, said it was confusing for people to have

the two issues linked. She believed that if regional assemblies in

Northumberland and elsewhere are established, they will be remote from local

issues and district councils will still be needed.
