Latest figures reveal almost 150 councils have signed up for the Local Government Association's reputation campaign.

Supported by the Improvement & Development Agency, the campaign follows research which showed people respect councils far less than the services they provide.

If councils sign up, they agree to 12 core actions around providing a cleaner, safer and greener environment and better communication material.

Measures include the provision of an A-Z guide to services and adopting a branded council cleaning operation.

The campaign aims to have 200 councils on board by the end of the summer.
