Local residents in streets controlled by Hammersmith and Fulham LBC staged demonstrations yesterday and forced commuters not to park, in protest against the piecemeal introduction of residential parking zones, The Times reports (p12).

The residents, who include former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash and former British ski champion Konrad Bartelski, say commuters are simply moving to unzoned areas and ousting local people.

A council spokesperson said there was a rolling programme of zones being set up at the rate of one every three months, the fastest in any London borough, but protesters would have to wait their turn.
