Rhondda Cynon Taff CBC is to end the no-eviction for rent arrears rule for an estate which the former Rhondda BC adhered to, reports The Western Mail (p5).

The new council is acting after finding that some tenants on the Penrhys estate have run up rent arrears of up to£5,000 each.

Arrears run up by 30 families on the estate total over£60,000. Rhondda's director of housing Robert Hale said the council intended to start eviction action in two cases immediately.

Arrears on the estate started to build up as a result of a high vacancy list, high crime, and vandalism, reports The Western Mail.
