The Times (p9) reports from Cardiff crown court where Plaid Cymru Rhondda Cynon Taff councillor Pauline Jarman alleges that she was knocked unconscious by former mayoress Carolyn Dower. The incident is alleged to have taken place at a dinner and karaoke evening in Llantrisant, near Cardiff.

Jarman told the court she confronted Dower after she had made a V-sign and called Plaid councillors 'scum'. The Times quotes her: 'She said nothing, but suddenly threw her fist at my face. I veered to avoid it but she made contact. The next thing I remember is being on the floor.' The court was then told that 13-stone Dower then shouted at a dazed Jarman (4ft 11in tall): 'Get up. You're an actress.' Jarman suffered bruising and was taken by ambulance to East Glamorgan Hospital, where doctors fitted a surgical collar.

Dower denies assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The trial, The Times concludes, continues.
