The Western Mail (p7) reports that residents in Nant y Gwyddon have won legal aid to sue landfill site operators Rhondda Waste Disposal Company for alleged personal injury and nuisance. Health and environmental experts will be called in to gather evidence in support of the claims.

Yesterday, a RWDC spokesman rejected the allegations. He said that the latest checks on air, water and local health gave no cause for alarm. But the residents's solicitor said there were questions over the role of two monitoring bodies: the Environment Agency and Rhondda Cynon Taff CBC's environmental health department. The council has diverted its rubbish lorries to the other landfill site it owns near Aberdare.
