Welsh education minister Rod Richards has ordered an investigation into allegations of intimidation and the use of misleading information by those opposing grant-maintained status for St Mellons Church in Wales Primary School, Cardiff.

'I have asked my officials to investigate these disturbing allegations against the local education authority of intimidatory tactics,' Mr Richards said.

'I have also seen some of the information issued by the group calling themselves 'St Mellons Parents Opposed to Opting Out' which is clearly misleading.

'The grant-maintained option should be an open choice for parents. Our concern is that their decision is based on a balanced presentation of the facts. I urge all parties to exercise care and to present the facts scrupulously fairly and ask the parents to study them before making their decision.'
