The Daily Post (Merseyside, p7) reports on the growing split within Liverpool CC's ruling Labour group, following the accusation by one Labour councillor that council leader Frank Prendergast attacked him during a Christmas party.
The latest sign of a rift was when Joe Kenny, deputy chairman of the policy and resources committee, refused to take his normal seat alongside Prendergast at a committee meeting yesterday.
He then sat next to Chris Newby - the alleged victim of the Christmas attack.
Liberal Democrat Paul Clein said that the incident was 'symbolic of the rift within the Labour group. I can only see these differences becoming worse as more and more attention is given to next year's budget...[which] always leads to conflicts in any group'.
