The correct route for thousands of ancient rights of way will soon be available from computer databases at the touch of a button, reports The Times (Interface p3).

A working group established by the Local Government Management Board has drawn up a British standard for the recording of the routes.

Mandy Smith, senior map review officer at Hampshire CC, a member of the working party, says her authority has invested in a sophisticated graphical information system which is useful not just for rights of way fur also for highways maintenance and planning issues.
