Road safety measures for schools should be tailored for individual sites said Roads minister, Robert Key (25 Nov, col 105).

In a written answer the minister said: 'Such measures may include traffic calming techniques or 20mph speed limits. Mandatory parking or stopping restrictions may sometimes be appropriate and enforcement of them would be responsibility of the police, except in London where increasingly the boroughs are taking this on.'
