Geoffrey Robinson, former executive at car company Jaguar, has been made paymaster-general under chancellor Gordon Brown and gets the responsibility of private finance initiative schemes, reported the Daily Telegraph (5 May, p23).

Mr Robinson will take charge of encouraging the private sector to help fund public projects. Also appointed to the treasury team are Alistair Darling as chief secretary to treasury with a cabinet seat, and Helen Liddell who is economic or financial secretary. Another appointment is to be made.
