A clear majority of tenants in Rother district council, East Sussex have opposed transfer to a housing association. If the ballot had been successful it would have resulted in the first transfer of housing tenants to an existing housing association.

Almost four-fifths of the 3733 tenants eligible to vote took part in the ballot. 54.2% voted against the transfer and 45.8% backed the change.

The result will be consider at the next meeting of the Housing Services committee on 10 November. But the district council previously said the transfer would not go ahead unless there was a simple majority of tenants in favour. District Secretary Trevor Elliott said: 'It does now appear that the matter is at an end.'
