A 13 year old boy accused of theft and criminal damage has been sent to a holiday centre by Sunderland MBC, the Daily Telegraph reports (p1).

The boy, who absconded from a children's home 20 times in five weeks, is to appear in court tomorrow. One of the charges against him is that he set fire to a woman.

He has been sent to Otterburn Hall holiday hotel on the Northumberland moors, in the care of two social workers. The manager of Otterburn Hall said there were no other secure facilities available and the location of the centre would prevent him absconding.

The Daily Mail (p1) reports 'outrage' over the boy being sent to the holiday centre where he is having 'the time of his life'. Tory MP for Hexham Peter Atkinson said he was seeking urgent talks with the Home Office over the matter.
