A row has broken out over a move by Westminster LBC to allow councillors cheap parking in central London, the Evening Standard reports (p2).

The planning and environment director, Syd Sporle, has confirmed a committee proposal to issue permits to councillors allowing them to use Westminster's meter bays and residents' parking spaces when on official duties. They will pay only a standard resident's fee.

Critics include the RAC who comment in the paper that councillors should have the same treatment as any other person who does business in Westminster.
