Roxburgh DC has joined other border councils in condemning government proposals for reform in local government.

The council decided that one local authority for the 1800 square miles of the borders area was not acceptable.

Councillor Myra Turnbull said: 'Nothing has been produced to change the views expressed some 6 months ago by Roxburgh, Berwickshire and Tweeddale DCs that two councils are the best options for Borders'

Vice Chairman, Grant Till said: 'The Secretary of State has agreed with the joint submissions put forward by three local authorities in the Borders. He must now take action to ensure that he continues with the proposals but with very different boundaries from those given in the white paper.'

The council also deferred any decision to join in COSLA's non co-operation stance against the Scottish Office until COSLA has clarified 'non co-operation'.
