Trustees of a deconsecrated church in Marlborough, Wiltshire who wanted to erect a banner of their patron saints to coincide with Princess Anne's visit to a nearby library, have been told that they will need planning permission to do so.

The Times (31 Aug, p8) reported that Kennet DC ruled that such a banner constitutes advertising and as such would require council approval, just as a hoarding would.
