The Royal Town Planning Institute responds to the publication* of PPS1 from

the ODPM:

'We will be responding to the publication in detail, but our initial

reaction is that it is a very clear, concise statement of policy.

'It fills in the gaps - on spatial planning, sustainable development and community

involvement - that we've been waiting for since publication of the first

green paper. It's a pity that it was not available to inform responses to

PPS7 and particularly to PPS11 and PPS12.

'The statement clearly concentrates on the 'what' rather than the 'how' -

and it may be that, on fuller investigation, it will identify further

practice guidance'.
