North Yorkshire MEP Edward McMillan-Scott has warned the region could lose out on European funding if cash is diverted to industrial areas.

Reported in the Northern Echo (p5, May 10), he said he was concerned the EU would cut support for rural areas, with the issue causing a battle in Brussels.

Yorkshire cities, towns and countries are benefiting from record EU support.

The EU delivered 12 times more for rural development than central government distributed, Mr McMillan-Scott said.
