Members of a nursery action group in Scotland have told their authority to 'face up to its responsibilities' in rural child care, Scotland on Sunday reported (p6).

Lewiston nursery is to have its funding discontinued by the Highlands RC jobs, enterprise and training unit, because it no longer fulfils its training requirements.

Convenor-elect of the new Highland UA Peter Peacock said that he wants to see provision increased, Scotland on Sunday reported, but the authority cannot afford it.

'Costs are extraordinary because of the distribution of the population,' he said.
