The department for education today published for consultation guidance on safety in outdoor activity centres.

This is one part of the four point action plan announced by the government following the Lyme Bay tragedy in March 1993.

The guidance is intended to provide schools, local education authorities, teachers and parents with practical advice to ensure, as far as possible, the safety of pupils attending outdoor centres.

The consultation period ends on 30 June 1994. The department believes schools will no doubt wish to take it into account in its draft form when planning activities.
