An eight strong party from Salford City Council has flown to China for a week long trip aimed at forging links with the industrial Chengu region, the Manchester Evening News reported (11 Nov p11).

Among the delegaton is chief executive John Willis and leader Bill Hinds.

Some Labour members have criticised the trip on the grounds of China's human rights record. But cllr Hinds says he consulted Amnesty International and was advised to continue dialogue with the country, the paper reported.
