Salford MBC is threatening to close two Roman Catholic high schools because pupil numbers have 'plummeted', reports the Manchester Evening News (p2).

The two schools facing the axe are John Paul II and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The council is considering building a new school on a new site, or on the site of one of the existing schools.
