Schoolchildren are missing more meals, and eating less fruit and more snacks, according to a Welsh survey, the Independent reports (p5).

The detailed government-backed survey of around 5,500 11 to 16-year- olds found that more than half the girls miss breakfast, against fewer than 40% in the 1986 survey, and a third do not eat lunch, against under one in five in 1986.

55% of girls and 64% of boys eat chocolate or sweets on five or more days a week.
