The Independent (Jan 17, p2) reported that the government is planning to set up a bureaucracy-busting unit to cut red tape in schools.

Inspectors are to be urged to concentrate on standards, not on whether schools have written policies for everything and the unit will offer advice on streamlining administration and simplify the bidding process for funds.
