OFSTED, the school watchdog which replaced Her Majesty's Inspectorate three years ago, has come under fire from unions and parents.

Primary schools are particularly dissatisfied by the process, reports the Times.(p33)

Nigel de Gruchy, general secretary of the National Association of Schoolmasters and Union of Women Teachers, said primary school inspections were particularly traumatic as there were often as many inspectors present as teachers.

The National Confederation of Parent and Teacher Association is calling for a greater role in the process.
