The Scottish Office is to prepare new guidance for local authorities which will help them improve the planning of housing for community care users. This new guidance will be based on research undertaken on behalf of the Scottish Office by Heriot Watt University.
Commenting on the research Scottish housing minister Raymond Robertson said: 'This research will improve the way in which estimates are made of how many people with community care needs are living within a local authority area and what housing they require.
'The Scottish Office will now prepare new guidance to local authorities based on the results of this research which will replace guidance issued in 1991. The new guidance, which will augment existing local surveys which authorities should continue to use, will be issued in due course following consultation.'
