Scottish local government minister Alan Stewart has said that council tax payers in Scotland who have had their property banding altered upwards after an error in the original list will not have to pay arrears.

Mr Stewart said that the Scottish secretary 'proposes to make regulations later this year which will ensure that in future any increase in council tax banding resulting from the correction of an error in the original list will only come into effect from the date on which the list was altered'.
