Scottish councils are preparing to make further protests to the government about its refusal to make concessions over the transport of nuclear weapons by road, the Scotsman reports (p4).

Roy MacIver, secretary general of the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities says the Ministry of Defence has failed to answer questions on safety cover.

In a report to be put before COSLA's protective services committee on Friday Mr MacIver says: 'Although a revision of the guidance is promised, no timetable for that review is stated'.

He added that the ministry has dismissed the use of rail transport and has not addressed the inadequacy of current evacuation procedures, the paper reports.
