The recommendations of the McCrone report into teachers' pay and conditions could be thrown into disarray if the Scottish Executive does not stump up£7m over the next two years.

The report led to a pay increase for teachers, but the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities feels councils are underfunded.

Leaders agreed to ask the Executive for extra cash. Public services minister Andy Kerr will be urged to review plans for funding the report's recommendations.

But a spokesman for the Scottish Executive refused to accept demands for extra funding. He said councils should be able to meet the cost from the local government finance settlement.
