The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities is readvertising for the post of chief executive.

President-elect Norman Murray said he wanted to extend the application period for the post another two or three weeks.

'We just want to make sure we have encompassed the whole element of people who might apply,' he said. Mr Murray, who has yet to gain approval of COSLA's opposition groups for his proposal, stressed he had not looked at the applications received to date.

COSLA intended to appoint a successor to Douglas Sinclair before May's elections, but this was blocked after intervention by North Lanarkshire and City of Glasgow Councils.

Mr Murray said he still hoped to have someone in place by November. 'The original adverts went out before the elections at a time of considerable uncertainty,' he said.
