A Scottish organisation has renewed intensive lobbying of ministers to push for an integrated transport policy to help improve business competitiveness, reported Scotland on Sunday (p3).

The Scottish Council Development and Industry has called for a fundamental overhaul and a new taxation system for private cars.

They want to encourage people to use public transport by increasing fuel prices or vehicle excise duty.

Other plans include using surpluses gained from charging drivers entering and leaving city centres for developing alternative transport modes.
