The head of public housing at the Scottish Office is to join the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities on a two-year secondment, the first of its kind.

David Henderson will be head of policy development for education, cultural services and social affairs at COSLA.

Before becoming head of the public housing division, Mr Henderson was head of the division which dealt with Scottish Homes. Between 1991 and 1996 he was head of the schools division.

COSLA chief executive Douglas Sinclair said: 'Secondments between local and central government are mutually beneficial - the more they inter-relate, the more productive the relationship will be.'
