The Scotsman (p1) claims to have uncovered names of representatives on the European Committee of Regions including Brian Meeks, Tory finance spokesman at Edinburgh DC and Charles Gray, President of COSLA.

Rosemary McKenna of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth DC and Senior vice president of COSLA is also named.

The paper comments that Scottish Secretary, Ian Lang, has struggled to find representatives which suit the Conservative party but also accommodates other parties, but may face a row over Mr Meeks selection which could be seen as political patronage.

One SNP member is included in the list of ten, the paper claims. The Highlands and Islands has at least one representative, Peter Peacock of Highland RC.

The official list is expected to be published by the Foreign Office later this month.
