The population of most of Scotland's cities continues to fall, reports The Scotsman (p9).

An investigation into population change, carried out by the Scottish Office, shows that Scotland's overall population fell by 8,600 between June 1995 and June 1996.

However, while Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee all experienced a reduction in poulation, Edinburgh saw an unprecedented rise in the numbers of people moving to the city.
