Scotland's education authorities plan to ask the government for more money for teachers' pay in order to avoid industrial action hitting schools, The Scotsman reports (p3).

The authorities' leader in pay negotiations with the teachers called for a meeting with the Scottish Office after ballots by the three main teachers' unions rejected a 2.3% pay offer.
