Gordon DC, Grampian, sat in private yesterday to discuss the appointment of their former chief executive, who retired early on grounds of ill health, to a £43,000 to £63,000-a-year job, The Herald reports (p10).

Michael Barron has been chosen as director of the National Lottery Sports Fund just four months after he left his Gordon post.

The council offered him early retirement after 29 months' service on the basis of an enhancement of 10 years reckonable service in terms of his pension and his lump sum entitlement. He is understood to have received a £64,000 lump sum and around £20,000 pension upon retirement.
