Average council house rents in Scotland will rise by 3.6% in the next financial year, figures published by COSLA reveal.

The increase brings next year's average weekly rent to £28.68 from £26.67 in 1994/95.

The biggest percentage rent rises are recorded in Orkney IC at 9.5% where the rent goes up from £29.05 to £31.82 and 7.9% in Inverness DC, where average rent goes up from £30.11 to £32.48.

Tweeddale,DC Dunfermline DC Banff and Buchan DC Gordon DC Moray DC West Lothian DC Argyll and Bute DC Dumbarton DC Renfrew DC and Angus DC all managed to freeze their rent rise for next year.
