An imminent crisis in community care is forecast by social work directors throughout Scotland, according to a survey in The Herald (p16).

The Herald reports that all 19 authorities which took part in the survey reported cuts in the 1996/97 social work budget, ranging from 2% in Dumfries and Galloway to 14% in Perth and Kinross. Most forecast cuts in community care services next year, with many anticipating reductions of between 5-10%.

Next month the Scottish affairs select committee holds an inquiry into the implementation of community care.
