CIPFA has already begun the search for a successor to David Adams, who steps down in March. The new chief executive can expect a salary of around£125,000 a year.

Interviews will begin next month with an appointment expected in September. Mr Adams said the institute wanted to avoid a repeat of the eight-month gap which occurred between the departure of Noel Hepworth and him taking the post. Applicants do not need to be CIPFA members or employed in the public sector.
