Six senior managers at Carlisle City Council have agreed to take voluntary redundancy as the authority implements its transformation plan.

Six senior managers at Carlisle City Council have agreed to take voluntary redundancy as the authority implements its transformation plan.

The six are:

  • Mike Battersby - Director of Community Services
  • John Egan - Director of Legal and Democratic Services
  • Alan Eales - Head of Planning and Housing (Acting Joint Director of Development Services)
  • David Beaty - Head of Property, Economy and Tourism Services (Acting Joint Director of Development Services)
  • David Williams - Head of Personnel and Development
  • Gordon Nicolson - Head of Facilities

In July, city councillors approved a new senior management structure, reducing the number of senior management posts from 19 to nine.

This means another four senior managers will also be leaving.

The remaining members of the senior management and heads of service teams will have an opportunity to apply for posts within the new structure and the recruitment and selection process is scheduled for the end of September.

As part of the same process, these members of staff will be issued with redundancy notices on the 16 September 2009.

The council says the new management structure will provide an annual saving of around £630,000 and additional savings will be needed to achieve planned revenue savings of £1m by 2010-11.
